Men’s sizes

7 6 39–40 25.0

Children’s sizes

Kids’ shoe size chart

Children’s shoe sizes change quickly as feet grow. Measuring the child’s foot is especially useful when comparing sizes between different countries and brands.

US Kids UK EU Foot length (cm)
8 7 24 14.5
9 8 25 15.5
10 9 27 16.5
11 10 28 17.5
12 11 30 18.5
13 12 31 19.5
1 13 32 20.0
2 1 33 21.0
3 2 34 22.0
4 3 36 23.0
5 4 37 24.0

Children’s sizing systems can differ significantly between manufacturers. Measure the foot and check the manufacturer’s own chart before purchasing when possible.

Measure your feet

How to measure your foot for shoe size

Knowing your foot length makes international shoe-size charts more useful. Measure both feet because one foot may be slightly larger than the other.

  1. Place a sheet of paper on a hard floor with one edge against a wall.
  2. Stand on the paper with your heel lightly touching the wall.
  3. Mark the point reached by your longest toe.
  4. Measure from the edge of the paper to the mark in centimeters.
  5. Repeat with the other foot and use the larger measurement when comparing sizes.

Measure while standing and wear the type of socks you would normally use with the shoes.

Understanding the numbers

How shoe size conversion works

Shoe sizes are not based on one universal international standard. The United States, United Kingdom and Europe use different numbering systems, and the relationship between them is not always exact.

US sizing also commonly uses different scales for men’s and women’s shoes. This means that a US women’s size 8 is not equivalent to a US men’s size 8.

European sizes generally use the same numbering range for men’s and women’s footwear, although the shape and fit of individual shoes can still differ.

For this reason, international shoe-size conversions should be treated as a starting point. Your measured foot length and the manufacturer’s own size chart provide useful additional information.

Choosing a size

Should you size up or size down?

There is no universal rule to always size up or size down. Shoes with the same labeled size can fit differently because of their shape, width, materials and intended use.

Your toes should have enough room to move without the foot sliding excessively inside the shoe. If you are between sizes, check whether the manufacturer offers half sizes or different widths before automatically choosing the larger size.

Questions & answers

Shoe size conversion FAQ

Quick answers to common questions about international shoe sizes and measuring your feet.

What is a US size 8 in EU shoe size?

It depends on whether the shoe uses men’s or women’s US sizing. A women’s US 8 is commonly around EU 38–39, while a men’s US 8 is commonly around EU 41. Manufacturer charts may differ.

What is a UK size 7 in EU shoe size?

A UK size 7 is commonly around EU 41 for adult footwear, although the exact conversion can vary by manufacturer and shoe type.

Is EU shoe size the same for men and women?

European shoe sizes generally use the same numerical scale for adult men’s and women’s footwear. However, shoes may still differ in width, shape and fit.

How do I calculate my shoe size?

Measure the length of your foot from the heel to the longest toe and compare the measurement with a shoe-size chart. Because sizing systems and brands differ, there is no single calculation that gives an exact size for every shoe.

How do I measure my foot for shoe size?

Stand with your heel against a wall and measure from the wall to the end of your longest toe. Measure both feet and use the larger measurement when comparing with a size chart.

Should my big toe touch the front of my shoe?

Your toes should generally have some room at the front of the shoe rather than being pressed against it. The appropriate amount of space depends on the footwear type and intended use.

Is it better to buy shoes a little bigger?

Not necessarily. Shoes that are too large can allow excessive movement, while shoes that are too small can feel restrictive. Use foot length, width and the manufacturer’s size information rather than automatically choosing a larger size.

Does half a shoe size make a difference?

Yes. Half sizes provide an intermediate step between full sizes and can affect both comfort and fit. The exact difference in length varies according to the sizing system and manufacturer.

How do I convert centimeters to shoe size?

Measure your foot length in centimeters and use the corresponding column in a shoe-size chart. A centimeter measurement does not translate into one universal shoe size because US, UK and EU systems use different scales.
